Mental Health Clinic & Office
Built in a multi-office building in the metropolitan area of San Juan, Puerto Rico, this mental health clinic was commissioned by a practicing mental health professional that desired to have their own space to carry out different types of therapy sessions.
The initial program called for a diversity of usage, including a waiting area, a group session space with a restroom, and a private office for couples or individual therapy, as well as sessions for young children. An aesthetic quality was crucial to this design because of the limited amount of space to work with. Therefore, the project incorporates lighter tones of wood, fabrics and furniture to create a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere for the patients and the client to work in. Using glass fronts and clerestory windows was also important to maintain natural light throughout.
